Where is your country and what is the official language?
I am from Ecuador, the middle of the world. The official language is Espanol (Spanish).
What is a traditional food from your country?
We did here at Kalani, an Ecuadorian fiesta. We did Ceviche. Ceviche is kind of a cold soup, it is from the coast and it is so good, I love it! You can do it with shrimp, or fish, it is with tomato, onion, lots of lemon. It is amazing.
What was the biggest culture shock you’ve experienced at Kalani?
Shock, shock, no. But I am in love with this place, the nature, the people who do this, the surroundings. Everybody is alone but everybody is together in this.
What do you like most about your culture?
Well, we have very kind people. We are Latin, we like to dance, we like to talk, we move our hands, we hug a lot.
How do you say ‘hello’ and ‘I love you’ in Spanish?
Hola is Hello, and Yo te amo is I love you.
What is the national dance?
We have a few. There is something from the north of the coast that is more like African: Tuku, tuku tuku, and you move, and there are lots of drums. There is another one cachullapi, where women wear big skirts and move them around.
